As a group we are particularly interested on issues related to Democracy and Development. We are not affiliated to a political party but we are interested in politics and for a few years already, we have advocated the implementation of participatory or true democracy for our societies. It is not happenstance then that we are interested in Venezuela, since it is a very unique case study for the implementation of participatory democracy.

We believe in social justice and in the elimination of economic oppression. Our agenda is to promote participatory democracy and to identify those elements that can facilitate or obstruct its implementation. For participatory democracy we understand the bringing about of a new society where people have the right to participate directly in the decision-making process regarding social, economic and political issues that may concern them. In their book "History of the Future that Belongs to Us," Hernandez and Robers call such a system "true democracy." (Hernandez and Robers: 130-131).

The intention of this web site is then to look at the Venezuelan reality, policies, expressions and the overall process and try to offer our input and perspectives. We are aware of the passion with which Venezuelans assume their political participation and we are also conscious that our analysis will not make everybody happy, but we will try to do our best in offering what we think is a balanced interpretation of the situation. If you happen to disagree with our analysis and want to express it, please do not hesitate to contact us for further discussion. We are people from different walks of life, teachers, scholars, professionals, activists, labor workers who are collaborating in bringing to light analysis and perspectives about the events in Venezuela. As a final sentence we would like to emphasize that we pursue peaceful solutions within the Venezuelan constitutional framework and the respect to Venezuelan sovereignty; we are absolutely sure that it is the only way to preserve peace, freedom, democracy and political participation in Venezuela.

Thank you,

Casa Venezuela
